Why I made it

My wife is fae the Philippines. The first time she met my mates properly, she smiled and nodded through a full Scottish conversation because the dictionary answers were either wrong, cringe or missing the point. I wanted a place where the patter is explained by somebody who actually uses it.

Whit Did Ye Say? is the result. It’s built round real Scottish voice recordings, plain explanations and the context that tells ye whether a word is affectionate, funny or liable tae start a fight.

What I bring tae it

I’m no' pretending tae be a university department. I’m a native Scottish speaker and a working creator who has recorded thousands of Scottish audio clips and spent years explaining the language to a real audience on YouTube and TikTok. When a page needs history or a careful origin, I check documented sources and say so. When something is simply how I use or hear a word, I say that as well.
