Privacy Policy

Last updated: 19 August 2026

This policy explains how I, Duncan Smith trading as SlammDunk Productions, handle information connected with the Whit Did Ye Say? website at whitdidyesay.com and the Whit Did Ye Say? mobile app. I have written it in plain English because nobody needs legal wallpaper for a Scottish dictionary.

Website information I collect

You can browse most of the website without giving me personal information. If you choose to join the Scottish Word of the Week newsletter, I collect the email address you submit and the consent information needed to run a double opt-in signup.

Newsletter and Brevo

I use Brevo to process the newsletter signup and send emails only to people who opt in. Brevo stores your email address for as long as you remain subscribed. Every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link. You can also contact me at hello@whitdidyesay.com if you need help with your subscription. Read Brevo’s Privacy Policy.

Hosting, logs and website functions

I use Netlify to host the website and operate the secure website functions that process newsletter signups and the optional game leaderboard. Like most web hosts, Netlify may process technical log data needed to deliver and protect the service, such as IP address, browser/device information, request time and pages requested. I do not use Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Meta Pixel, Hotjar, Clarity, Plausible or Fathom on this website at the time this policy was updated.

Cookies and Google advertising

This website may use Google AdSense on selected, content-rich pages. When Google ads are served, Google and its partners may use cookies, web beacons, IP addresses and similar identifiers to provide, measure and limit advertising. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on visits to this and other sites. You can manage ad personalisation in Google Ads Settings and read how Google uses data from sites and apps. I do not place Google advertising code on noindex, confirmation, sign-up, download or other intentionally ad-ineligible pages.

Where consent is required by applicable law for non-essential advertising storage or access, a suitable consent solution must be in place before those cookies are used. This policy does not itself replace a consent choice.

Payments and external links

I do not take card payments through this website. App purchases are processed by Apple or Google. Merch purchases are handled by the linked store. External sites have their own privacy policies, so please read those when you leave Whit Did Ye Say?.

Mobile app information

The app does not require an account for its core features. App preferences, favourites, scores and similar settings are stored locally on your device. The app uses third-party services for features such as translation, audio generation, advertising and purchases. Those services may process the information needed to provide their feature. For relevant details, see the privacy information published by ElevenLabs, Google and Apple.

Your choices and rights

You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to ask for access, correction, deletion or restriction of personal information I hold about you. To make a request, email hello@whitdidyesay.com. I may need enough information to verify the request and will respond as required by applicable law.

Children

The website is not designed to collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the website, contact me and I will look into it.

Changes and contact

I may update this policy when the website or its services change. The current version will always show its last-updated date above.
